New Testament Church Distinctive
If you are looking for a church home we would like the opportunity to get to know you better and let you know a few things about Cedar Valley
Bible Church.
In order for you to get to know us, please take a few moments to read through this introduction to the
distinctives of Cedar Valley Bible Church.
If you have any questions or would like to talk with someone please contact any
CVBC Elder.
Purpose
Cedar Valley Bible Church was formed in 1966 to help believers in Christ grow in all aspects in Him
(Ephesians 4:11-16).
It is the goal of Cedar Valley Bible Church to conform as much as possible to the principles set forth in the New Testament for the local church.
What follows are a few of these principles.
Church Leadership
Christ is the head of the church, there is no other
(Colossians 1:18).
Those who lead, administer, oversee and shepherd believers in Christ are referred to as Elders in the New Testament
(1 Peter 5:1-5).
These men are recognized on the basis of character qualifications as listed in
1 Timothy 3
and other passages.
The Elders meet regularly to develop and maintain a common understanding of the Scriptures and to determine church policy.
All of the body is encouraged to come and actively participate in these meetings. There is however no congregational vote.
Rather the Elders bear the responsibility to lead the church to agreeable decisions
(Acts 15:22).
Deacons are helpers and recognized by the Elders as members of the assembly with a particular ministry or service to the body.
Deacons must meet the character qualifications laid down in
1 Timothy 3:8-13.
Individual and Large Group Bible Study
Bible study and memorization are very important to every Believer in Christ as Paul says in
2 Timothy 3:16-17.
To encourage systematic and uniform study in the congregation, a weekly assignment is given.
The Elders request that each person fill out a "7-Up" study guide sheet on the assigned Bible passage (these study guides are provided by Cedar Valley).
Small group studies are led by Elders on Wednesday nights to go over the assigned "7-Up" Scripture passage which will be preached the following Sunday morning.
Spiritual Gifts
Every Believer in Christ has been given a Spiritual gift which is a God given ability of service
(Romans 12,
1 Corinthians 12,
Ephesians 4).
Since a church only functions at its best when every believer uses his spiritual gift(s) one
of our aims is to aid each believer in the discovery,
development and exercise of his spiritual gift(s).
Fellowship
Fellowship in the form of sharing meals together appears to be important in the early Church
(Acts 2,
1 Corinthians 11).
We encourage private hospitality, where people get together in a home to share their food but also to get to know one another better so that they can help meet each others needs and
help each other grow in faith and faithfulness to Jesus Christ.
