BIBLE

The Bible is the written revelation of God for men. It provides the foundation of our faith in Jesus Christ, the standard of truth by which all other truth is measured, and the practical guide for life today. In kindergarten through 12th grade Bible is taught as a separate subject. Just as important, however, the truths of the Scriptures are integrated in the content of all classes, recess, extra-curricular activities, and in the handling of all school affairs.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum used at Cedar Valley Christian School addresses needs of students in the areas of spiritual, mental, physical and social development. We view the student as a whole person, and therefore no particular area of development should be isolated or omitted. While the basic traditional subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, history, science and reasoning are pursued, we attempt to help each student seek to:

1. love their Lord: (Luke 10:27) “…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind…”
2. love others: (John 15:12) “This is my commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.”
3. love the wisdom/truth of the Lord: (Proverbs 4:6) “Do not forsake wisdom and she will guard you; love her, and she will watch over you.”

A brief description of the curriculum follows.

Pre-kindergarten
The Bob Jones K4 curriculum is used in pre-kindergarten, along with many other resources, activities and materials. For more complete information on goals of the preschool program, please refer to the pre-kindergarten information pamphlet available from the office.

Elementary
In kindergarten through 6th grades, Bob Jones materials are used for reading, language arts and heritage studies. ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) and Addison Wesley are used for math. Our Bible curriculum is published by ACSI and CSI (Christian Schools International). Other resources and materials are used for science and music and as supplements to the main curriculum. Curriculum sheets detailing class objectives for each grade are available upon request.

Junior High (7th & 8th Grade)
In junior high Addison Wesley continues to be used for math. A Beka and Warriner’s are used for grammar. Bob Jones University Press is used for literature, science and history. In house materials are used for Fine Arts and Bible. The junior high program is structured to help the student learn independent study skills, personal responsibility, discernment, and self-discipline. A syllabus for each class is available upon request.

High School (9th-12th)
The emphasis in the high school program is on preparation for college and the development of skills in reasoning, discernment and communication. Many different publishers and textbooks are used in teaching both core and elective subjects.

At the beginning of the year (or semester) at both the junior and senior high levels, each student is given a class syllabus from the teacher with the following: a course description, objectives and brief schedule detailing reading and other assignments.
